The SmoothStepper is a motion control device that connects to the USB port of a computer running Windows. It accepts commands from Mach3 CNC software, and produces very high quality pulse trains that drive step & direction motors.
The Board now comes mounted in a 3D Printed box (colour varies) with 1 cable for the output of Port 1(see ptCableDB25-IDC26), which is all that is required for our routers. The box has rubber feet and a window to view the LEDs
Cable to go from the board Port 2 to a Parrallel socket (DB25) is available seperately (Part ptCableDB25-IDC26)
Go to the warp9td.com website and go to software and download the driver for your version of Windows. This drives the main board functions
You will also need to install the driver for the chip which runs the USB port. For Windows 8 this is SmoothStepper_v17fd (March 2014). Only once this driver is installed will Windows see the board. When you start Mach3 it will then ask you whether you wish to use Parrellel Port or the Smooth Stepper. This first time Mach3 will say it has no info and ask to load defaults - please do so. You can now use Mach3 to talk to your router the same as if you have a Parrallel port connection. More
This board is a drop-in replacement for the A4988 Pololu board. It is superior in that it can handle 1.5A instead of 1A without extra cooling, and rated upto 2.2A with a heatsink and fan. It also has microstepping resolutions down to 1/32 microsteps (instead of 1/16th)
Comes with a header strip which needs to be soldered on for mounting to a RAMPS shield, but is left off so you have the option of using it in a different way, such as attaching to a ribbon cable or breadboard.
Supplied without a heatsink (available seperately). More
